iAnnotate includes additional features that become accessible through selecting text. Learn more about these features and how to use them.
Long tap on any word to unlock a series of additional features: Speak, Dictionary, Google, Wikipedia, Copy/Paste, Highlight, Underline, Strikeout and more.
To launch the menu, first long tap on any word. Adjust the selection by dragging the blue handles.
How to Use Speak
Speak allows you to select a word or series of words so that they can read aloud to you
- Long tap on the word or phrase you'd like to activate with "Speak". This will reveal the selected text feature menu.
- Tap "Speak"
How to Use Dictionary
Dictionary connects you to the definition of any word using a standard dictionary. iAnnotate includes access to 65+ dictionaries via the native iOS dictionary download library. iAnnotate will define terms using the iOS dictionaries already downloaded to your device.
- Long tap on the word or phrase you'd like to research using the dictionary. This will reveal the selected text feature menu.
- Tap "Dictionary"
- This will reveal the Dictionary menu. Here you can tap on a definition for further information, or you can scroll down and tap "Search Web" for further research or select "Manage Dictionaries" to control the source of all definitions pulled into iAnnotate.
How to Use Google
Google allows you to search any selected word or phrase.
- Long tap on the word or phrase you'd like to research using Google. This will reveal the selected text feature menu.
- Tap "Google"
- This will automatically activate a Google search query and redirect you to Google via your default web browser.
- Once you've finished your research, you can navigate back to iAnnotate to continue your workflow.
How to Use Copy/Paste, Highlight, Strikethrough, or Underline
Copy/Paste, Highlight, Strikethrough, and Underline help you work with the content of a document and streamline the annotation process.
- Long tap on the word or phrase you'd like to work with. This will reveal the selected text feature menu
- Using Copy/Paste: Choose "Copy" to copy any selected text, then tap again and choose "Paste" to add the copied text to a typewriter annotation, note, or within a separate app.
- Using Highlight, Strikethrough, or Underline: Choose Highlight, Strikethrough, or Underline to add any of those annotations to the selected text. Tap the grey check mark in the top right corner to finish the annotation process and close the tool.
For our Enterprise users: These options might appear differently depending on the security permissions allowed by your Admin.
