How to Delete a Document in iAnnotate

Here’s how to delete a document in iAnnotate.

Caution: Documents deleted from iAnnotate will be permanently deleted.

Local files are not backed up outside of iAnnotate, including iCloud back-up.

Deleting vs. Closing a Document

  1. Tapping the "X" on the orange tab next to a document name will only close a document and not delete the document. The closed documents can be located in the iAnnotate Library. Follow these steps to delete a document from the iAnnotate Library.

How to Delete a Document

  1. From document view, tap the "+" in the top left corner to navigate to the iAnnotate library.

Reminder: Tapping the “+” icon in the top left corner once will bring you to your most recently accessed location in the iAnnotate Library. Tap the house cloud icon to access the main menu.

  1. Once your document is located, tap the circle next to the icon or name of the document so that a tick mark appears in the circle.
  2. Tap the trash bin icon at the bottom of the page, then tap “Delete” to confirm deletion.

What You Need Know Before Deleting a File

Files Saved to Cloud Storage May be Backed Up

Documents saved to a cloud storage connection and deleted from iAnnotate will no longer be accessible within the app and are also deleted from the cloud server. However, they may or may not be accessible through your cloud storage account’s recently deleted section depending on the practices of the cloud server (i.e. your Google Drive or OneDrive workspace).

Files Saved to Local Files are NOT Backed UP

Documents saved to local files will be permanently deleted as these are not backed up by a cloud server.

iAnnotate does not have a recently deleted section to search for or recover erased files.
